Turning Hope into Action
Ummeedon Ki Dor is a long-term commitment to building the healthiest communities for women in Rajkot.
Over the past 18 months, we have laid the foundation by working closely with women and girls in Bedi. Through community workshops, safe spaces for dialogue, sustainable menstrual products, and locally-led learning, women have gained knowledge about menstrual and reproductive health, challenged long-held myths, and begun making informed choices about their health and wellbeing.
This is only the beginning.
At the heart of the initiative are Community Champions, women from the villages who have become trusted advocates within their own neighbourhoods.
Together with local institutions, universities, and community leaders, they are building a model that can be strengthened, expanded, and replicated across Rajkot. While the first phase has demonstrated what is possible, many more villages, women, and families are yet to be reached.
With continued support, Ummeedon Ki Dor will grow into a district-wide movement that ensures every woman in Rajkot has access to knowledge, dignity, and the opportunity to lead a healthy life.
The most meaningful change wasn't just measured in numbers, it was reflected in everyday lives.
Women who once hesitated to speak about menstruation began having open conversations with their families and neighbours. Harmful myths gave way to accurate information, confidence replaced hesitation, and community members felt better equipped to make informed decisions about their health.
The project reached hundreds of women and girls, strengthened understanding of menstrual and reproductive health, reduced restrictive menstrual practices, encouraged the adoption of safer menstrual products, and created a network of local women who continue to champion these conversations within their communities.
